Traditional Drum Dance
In 2023, Culture China released a 30 minute documentary on Xiangxi Miao Drum Dance within the territory of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan Province. Providing specs on culture, values, and tradition. Host Yegor Shyshov transports you to Xiangxi and sits down for an interview with Long Zilin, a master of the Miao Drum Dance. Where he shares the myths surrounding their practice. Shyshov then visits a fifth-generation drum king who seizes the chance to pass down traditions to the following generation, as well as Jishou University students who are implementing traditional and contemporary drum dance to keep the younger generations interested.
Modern Drum Dance
In anticipation of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Chinese New Year, composer Wang Jianan and lyricists Ershui teamed up with Chinese top percussionists and figure skaters in a modern Battle Drum Dance.
